Last night I saw a play Night, mother《晚安，妈妈》 played by @焦媛 and @米雪LV. It began with the daughter Jessie calmly telling her mom that she would commit suicide. The dialogue between them revealed the reasons for her decision, her life with mom and the relationship between her and her dad, ex-husband, her son and her brother's family.
Her mom probably had very strong desire for control. She tried hard to persuade Jessie to give up the plan by all means. I thought her speech couldn't comfort well. She even broke up Jessie's beautiful memory in her childhood with her dad. It was so cuel. Jessie was failed to do everything in her life and her suicide was the only successful thing. She was brave to do something for herself.
Very ironicly, the gulf existed in those closest relatives. Too desperate to stay with them without any understandings. They helped in the name of love. They didn't care if you accepted or not. Jessie and her mom were like the hostage and the negotiator. But the negotiation broke down. Jessie just wanted to die. Her mental disease and other factors led to the tragedy.
Two actresses acted very well. The rhythm of the dialogue was perfect. The mood they presented was controlled just right. So the experience was quite comfortable and it was a real catharsis.
